Blue13 Dance Company is an American dance theatre ensemble based in Los Angeles, with a mission to drive a shift in the perception and practice of American dance through performance, outreach, and education. POSITION SUMMARY

Blue13 seeks to hire a Production and Communications Intern who will receive hands-on experience in developing and implementing social media, communications and production strategies and activities for the Global Majority disruptors of Blue13 Dance Company. The intern will take a leadership role in creating promotional materials for digital and print uses. Also, the intern will help to plan and create social media content, website updates, and some light graphics, film, photo and editing work if desired. This is a part-time internship from February to June 2024 for approximately 15 hours per week including some weekends and evenings.  

The Production and Communications Intern will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in various aspects of arts administration. This internship will provide on-site exposure to the inner workings of Blue13 Dance Company and its programs, including the artist residency program (Playdate), the education program for Title-1 schools (American Kahani), and other large-scale performance events including a May engagement at Heritage Square Museum.

Working closely with the Associate Artistic Director and the Digital Content Manager, the intern will play a pivotal role in both production logistics and communications. On the production side, they will assist with coordinating logistics for Blue13’s programs and events, gaining practical experience in event planning and execution. This may involve tasks such as scheduling, coordinating with artists and venues, organizing and logging costumes and props, and ensuring smooth operations during performances.

In terms of communications, the intern will take a leadership role in generating social media content and developing messaging and growth strategies. They will have the opportunity to contribute their creative ideas and help shape the organization’s online presence. They will film and edit classes and rehearsals and BTS footage. Additionally, the intern will actively participate in weekly team staff meetings, fostering collaboration and learning how different departments work together to achieve common goals.

This internship values the intern’s voice and encourages them to contribute new ideas that align with Blue13’s ABIDE vision and support the mission to reimagine American dance. It offers a unique chance to gain insight into the dynamic field of arts administration and make a meaningful impact on Blue13’s programs and initiatives.

This internship will average 15 hours/week.

QUALIFICATIONS

Blue13 welcomes applicants from diverse academic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the arts and a strong interest in production and communications within a performing arts setting. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask are crucial for success in this role. Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as creativity in generating engaging social media content, are highly valued. They should be strong writers, proactive, organized, resourceful, and feel comfortable generating and sharing ideas for continual improvement. Knowledge of MS Office and Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud software including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator are important skills as is knowledge of current social media platforms including Tiktok, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.The intern should be comfortable working collaboratively in a team environment and be eager to contribute innovative ideas that align with Blue13’s vision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and curate social media content and captions
  • Support the Digital Content Manager to create and send biweekly email newsletters (Neon)
  • Coordinate artist takeovers for social media
  • Keep Blue13’s linktr.ee up-to-date
  • Manage and update info on the website (WordPress)
  • Design graphics for print and digital use as needed
  • Design promotional video material as needed
  • Assist in on-site rehearsals and productions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • WordPress
  • Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign)
  • Video editing experience (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or comparable software)
  • Knowledge of current social media platforms including Tiktok, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Experience working with a diverse group of individuals in an inclusive and equitable manner
  • Proximity to central/northeast LA with a flexible schedule
  • Creative, adaptable, highly organized and able to work independently

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

Remote work environment for digital tasks

During rehearsals/performances, move through a (possibly tight/crowded) space to take photos and videos.

Salary: This is a paid Part-Time hourly position (10-15 hours per week, flexible schedule). 

Rate: $16.90/hour

As the Company Manager at Blue13 Dance Company, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our day-to-day operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Administrative Operations:

    • Production administration support (such as coordinating rental requests from the artistic team).

    • Handle contracts with vendors, ensuring timely delivery of services and products.
    • Review and negotiate terms and agreements with contractors.
  • Communication and Networking:
    • Liaise with partners, collaborators, and contractors to foster strong relationships.
    • Represent Blue13 Dance Company at various events, fostering positive connections.
  • Financial Assistance:
    • Provide support with basic bookkeeping tasks, such as expense tracking.
    • Collaborate with the finance team to ensure smooth financial operations.
    • Run biweekly payroll.

Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to work diligently and independently to manage day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset to overcome challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build positive relationships.
  • Prior experience in bookkeeping and/or the performing arts sector is advantageous but not required.
  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Suite) and tech-savviness.
  • An enthusiastic and proactive attitude, willing to learn and adapt to new situations.

POSITION SUMMARY
Blue13 seeks to hire an experienced and creative professional to oversee the organization’s online presence, digital marketing campaigns, and graphics. The position includes day-to-day management of Blue13’s online presence. The Digital Content manager will work closely with the team to lead successful social media content campaigns, email newsletters, and keep Blue13 connected with our online community. 

The successful candidate will have the knowledge of graphic design, social media content strategies, e-newsletter campaign strategies, and web design. The Digital Content Manager is expected to participate in weekly organizational meetings via Zoom. They should also be available to take photos and videos at rehearsals, performances, and events on a regular basis. Additional hours will be paid for those commitments. Occasional absences are acceptable with prior planning. 

The Digital Content Manager will report to the Artistic Director and the Company Manager. This is a Part-Time position (5-7 hours per week, up to 12 hours per week during large performances/events) at $20/hr. Hours could increase, as needed and approved by the Artistic Director and Company Manager.
