PRODUCTION AND COMMUNICATIONS INTERN
We are currently hiring for a Production and Communications Intern to develop and coordinate marketing strategies and programming logistics. Intern must currently attend college (graduating May 2025 is acceptable), and either attend college in Los Angeles County or have a permanent address in Los Angeles County.
DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Production and Communications Intern
Reports to: Executive Director
Length of Project: 15 – 20 hours per week (400 hours total)
Pay: $17.87 per hour
BACKGROUND
Blue13 Dance Company is an American dance theatre ensemble based in Los Angeles, with a mission to drive a shift in the perception and practice of American dance through performance, outreach, and education. For over 20 years, Blue13 has connected audiences through the power of live dance, performing in the U.S. and abroad in its highly energetic style inspired in part by the classical and cultural art forms of the Indian subcontinent.
ABIDE (Access, Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity) is the cornerstone of the Blue13 ethos and woven into all facets of our organizational practices. Blue13 is an Indian woman-founded dance company, with a diverse cast, board, and staff. Working with Blue13 means to center Global Majority artists as the important and exciting voices and movers of our generation.
Recently, Blue13 has performed at The Ford, The Music Center, Hollywood Bowl, REDCAT, The Wallis, and Disney’s California Adventure.
SUMMARY
To support this programming, the Production and Communications Intern will play a significant role in the planning and creation of promotional collateral and marketing campaigns to generate more attention to Blue13’s community engagement and artistic programming, including website, press, and print. They will also play a key role in executing social media campaigns, including creating content and generating a social media strategy campaign with metrics in order to gain traction and enhance the company’s brand. On the production side, they will assist with coordinating logistics for Blue13’s programs and events, gaining practical experience in event planning and execution. This may involve tasks such as scheduling, coordinating with artists and venues, organizing and logging costumes and props, and ensuring smooth operations during performances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create and update website updates weekly
- Send regular email blasts and maintain email lists on Blue13’s CRM
- Assist with Blue13’s press kit and press relations
- Maintain and post regularly on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok
- Light graphic design work and photo and video editing
- Develop and test strategies to increase followers and engagement on all social media platforms
- Digitally organize marketing materials, photos, press, archival materials, and videos
- Backstage responsibilities such as costumes, props, assistant stage management (ASM) duties
- Front-of-house duties may include welcoming guests and selling tickets
- Utilize patron management software
- Interact with audiences, patrons and board members
QUALIFICATIONS
Blue13 welcomes and encourages applicants from all academic backgrounds. The applicant must currently attend college (graduating May/June 2025 is acceptable), and either attend college in Los Angeles County or have a permanent address in Los Angeles County.
The ideal applicant will have an appreciation for dance with an interest in marketing, social media content creation/management, and production on a professional level. They should be strong writers, proactive, organized, resourceful, and feel comfortable generating and sharing ideas for continual improvement. Knowledge of Google Suite and MS Office are desired, and proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud software including Photoshop and Illustrator is helpful. Familiarity with current social media platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook is required.
